Vacuum insulation is an assembly strategy for reducing heat transfer where available thickness is limited. In a vacuum insulated panel (VIP), a porous core is evacuated and sealed within a barrier film. Qiyao product pages state that VIP thermal conductivity is lower than 0.003 W/m·K for the vacuum core. That value applies to the core, not automatically to a finished assembly; installed performance depends on panel dimensions, edge conditions, and barrier integrity. Hangzhou Qiyao New Material Co., Ltd., established 2017 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, supplies VIP panels, aerogel felt, reflective foil insulation, cold chain boxes and bags, pallet and container covers, gel ice packs, and foil laminated barrier film. VIP product names on the store span panel, board and sheet formats (e.g. ‘Vacuum Insulated Board VIP Sheet for Building Insulation’). See VIP panels for product listings. This page covers building, cold chain, and equipment applications.

Why VIPs are specified for vacuum insulation

Vacuum insulation is specified when thermal resistance is required in a thin profile. The verified published value for the VIP vacuum core is “thermal conductivity is lower than 0.003 W/m·K.” Because heat transfer through the core is reduced under vacuum, a VIP can provide a thinner insulation layer than many conventional porous materials for a comparable thermal resistance. The published value is for the vacuum core; it should not be treated as a finished-wall or finished-box value without accounting for edges, joints, fixing penetrations, and barrier film condition.

Qiyao lists VIP products in panel, board, and sheet formats. Real product names include “Small Thermal Bridge Effect Insulation VIP Insulation Panel” and “Custom Insulation Fumed Silica Vacuum Insulation Panel.” The Made-in-China store listed 333 VIP vacuum panel products on sale as of 2026-10-11. OEM/ODM is available, and samples are available. Starting price for VIP panel is from $3.11/pc (2026-10-11). For a side-by-side view of how vacuum insulation compares with other insulation types, see compare insulation options.

VIPs are often used where space is constrained: interior wall build-ups, cold chain boxes, pallet shippers, equipment enclosures, and other assemblies where thickness reduces usable volume. They are not a substitute for every insulation layer. In many designs, VIPs are combined with a protective outer layer, an edge treatment, or a secondary insulation material. The choice depends on the target temperature, duty cycle, mechanical protection, and available cavity. Because VIP performance depends on maintaining the vacuum, handling and installation requirements are part of the specification. For VIPs, custom sizes should be confirmed against the product drawing; a ‘Custom Insulation Fumed Silica Vacuum Insulation Panel’ product is listed and OEM/ODM is available. Product pages for some aerogel products note “thickness available in customized options”; for VIPs, custom sizes should be confirmed against the product drawing. The product line also includes foil laminated barrier film, reflective foil insulation, and aerogel felt for related thermal and radiant-barrier functions.

Building walls: vacuum insulation in interior assemblies

In building walls, vacuum insulation is used primarily as interior wall insulation where floor area, headroom, or existing cavity depth limits the thickness of the insulation layer. Qiyao lists products named “Wall Insulation Interior Wall Insulation Fiberglass Fumed Silica VIP Vacuum Panel” and “Fumed Silica VIP Vacuum Insulated Panel Thermal Material for Building Wall.” These names identify the intended application: interior wall insulation and building wall thermal material using fumed silica VIP construction.

Wall assemblies are not just the panel. Thermal bridging occurs at studs, top and bottom plates, service penetrations, panel joints, and transitions to adjacent building elements. Qiyao lists “Small Thermal Bridge Effect Insulation VIP Insulation Panel” as a named product. The product name references a small thermal bridge effect; ask the supplier for the test basis behind the claim. In practice, the designer should detail continuous insulation where possible, limit penetrations through the VIP, and protect panel edges from damage. VIPs should not be punctured or cut on site to fit around services; dimensions should be planned before fabrication.

For wall applications, VIPs may be combined with reflective foil insulation. Reflective foil products work by reflecting radiant heat and carry no published thermal-conductivity value. They are not the same as vacuum insulation and should not be specified as a replacement without considering the heat-transfer mode. Aerogel felt is another option; Qiyao product pages describe aerogel felt as having “low thermal conductivity” but publish no numeric value. Some aerogel products note “thickness available in customized options.” The Made-in-China store listed 140 aerogel felt products, 161 reflective foil insulation products, and 28 foil laminated barrier film products on sale as of 2026-10-11.

For building wall projects, start with the required cavity dimensions and target performance, then confirm the VIP size, edge treatment, and protection layer. OEM/ODM is available; confirm custom-size capability per product. Samples are available. Certificates available upon request. Industry-typical lead times are 15–25 days for standard orders and 25–35 days for custom sizes; confirm at time of order. Use the compare page to review material differences before finalizing a wall build-up.

Cold chain and equipment

In cold chain and equipment, vacuum insulation is specified when payload volume, box wall thickness, or equipment envelope size is constrained. A thinner insulation layer can increase internal capacity for a given outer dimension, but the final configuration must be validated for the required temperature profile and duration. Qiyao supplies cold chain boxes and bags, pallet and container covers, and gel ice packs. Real product names include “140 Hours Thermal Large Size 1000L Pallet Shipper for Cold Chain Transport,” “Cold Chain Pallet Shipper 168 Hour Shipment,” “Vaccine Transport Box Medical Vehicle Cooler Box,” “20FT Reusable Aluminum Foil Thermal Insulated Bag,” and “40FT Aluminum Foil Thermal Insulated Bag Custom Container Liner.”

Starting prices listed on 2026-10-11 include: VIP panel from $3.11/pc; cold chain cooler box from $15.76/pc; 140-hour 1000L pallet shipper $475; 168-hour pallet shipper $475; cooler shock ice packs $0.85. The Made-in-China store listed 291 cold chain boxes/bags products, 164 pallet/container cover products, and 61 gel ice pack products on sale as of 2026-10-11. For cold chain product listings, see cold chain insulation.

Equipment applications can include enclosures, battery cell insulation, and pipeline insulation. Real product names include “Aerogel Insulation Pad for Battery Cell Insulation,” “Silica Aerogel Sound Insulation Aerogel Blanket Pipeline,” and “Fire Resistance Thermal Insulation Silica Aerogel Padding.” These are separate product families from VIPs and should be selected according to the equipment’s thermal, acoustic, or fire-resistance requirements. For VIP-based equipment insulation, the same handling rules apply: protect the barrier film, avoid field cuts, and plan panel dimensions before production. Custom fumed silica VIP panels are listed as “Custom Insulation Fumed Silica Vacuum Insulation Panel.” Samples are available for evaluation. OEM/ODM is available for custom sizes and formats.

Handling notes

VIPs depend on a sealed vacuum. Panels must not be punctured or cut on site. A puncture, deep abrasion, or compromised edge seal can allow the core to lose vacuum and change thermal performance. Field cutting to fit around pipes, conduits, or structural elements is not recommended for vacuum insulation. Sizes, cutouts, and edge details should be planned before fabrication and confirmed on the product drawing.

Store panels in dry conditions and protect them from impact, sharp objects, and excessive point loads. During installation, avoid fasteners through the panel body. If mechanical fixing is required, use edge clamping, frames, or pre-designed fixing zones that do not penetrate the barrier. Seal joints and edges according to the assembly design. Do not rely on the VIP alone to provide structural strength or weather resistance unless the specific product and assembly have been verified for that function.

For custom dimensions, confirm capability per product (OEM/ODM is available). Provide drawings with length, width, thickness, edge treatment, and any required cutouts. Samples are available. Industry-typical lead times are 15–25 days for standard orders and 25–35 days for custom sizes; confirm at time of order. Certificates available upon request.

Vacuum insulation can reduce insulation thickness in building walls, cold chain equipment, and equipment enclosures when the panel remains sealed and the assembly is detailed correctly. The verified VIP vacuum-core value is lower than 0.003 W/m·K; other insulation families, such as reflective foil and aerogel, have different published data and should be compared as separate systems.
